Leon County VINELink Coverage
Leon County's official victim-information page says Florida VINE includes the Leon County Detention Facility, every Florida county detention facility, Florida Department of Corrections state prisons, and the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. This broad reach is useful, but each result still belongs to a named custodian. An LCDF event is a county-jail event. An FDC result is a state-corrections event. Youth information has separate confidentiality limits and should be handled only through lawful juvenile channels.
VINE provides status and notification data sent by participating agencies. It is not a certified long-term release archive. Users may obtain current location and tentative release information where supplied, and may register for events such as release, transfer, escape, work-release placement, transfer to another jurisdiction, return to custody, or death. These event types are not synonyms. A transfer indicates that custody moved, not that the person entered the community.

Search Leon County VINELink Records
Begin with the last likely custodian. A recent local arrest by LCSO, Tallahassee Police, campus police, or another Leon County agency usually points to LCDF. A person serving a Florida prison sentence belongs in FDC. VINELink does not cover a federal sentence at FCI Tallahassee through the state record. For federal custody, the Bureau of Prisons locator and federal docket are the proper sources.
- Open VINELink and choose Florida, or go directly to the Florida state page.
- Search by full name or an available identifier. Use the complete ID when possible, even though help may permit partial-ID matching.
- Review all candidates. Compare the agency, identity details, and Person Record Details instead of selecting a name alone.
- Open the best match and read the exact Custody Status plus the event and date text.
- If no sound match appears, check spelling and custodian, then move to LCSO, FDC, the court record, or the appropriate federal source.
Multiple people may share a name. The agency label and identifier reduce that risk. If a person has moved from LCDF to FDC, the county and state entries may describe different parts of the same custody trail. Neither should be forced to cover the other's period.
Note: Keep the agency name and event time with any saved alert because a status word without its source can be misunderstood.
Leon VINELink Release Record Fields
The exact fields vary by agency and record. Read only what the live entry provides. A released or out-of-custody status sent by LCDF supports that a local status change occurred, but it is not a permanent certified discharge record. A tentative date signals a future estimate. It should never be presented as a completed release.

A missing history is also inconclusive. The record may no longer display, the agency may have changed, the input may not match, or the system may lag. Use the closed booking and release event from LCSO for durable local confirmation. For an FDC case, use the state release search and the underlying corrections record.
Register Leon County Release Alerts
Once the correct record is open, select the notification or registration option. Available methods may include telephone, text, or email. More than one method can help when one channel fails, but each contact method must be entered accurately. Registration is tied to that person record and the events the service offers for it.
- Confirm the agency and person details before choosing “Get Notified” or the equivalent registration control.
- Select the available events and contact methods. Release and transfer should remain distinct.
- For telephone registration, enter the number and create a memorable four-digit PIN.
- Save the PIN securely. Each separately registered telephone number uses its own PIN.
- When a call arrives, enter the PIN followed by the pound sign to confirm receipt and stop the retry cycle.
- Retain text or email notices and verify the event with the named custodian before relying on it.
Text and email behavior can differ from calls, and a message may not repeat. Registration also does not guarantee that every possible record change is public. Keep enough identifying detail to contact the agency if an alert is unclear.
Leon VINE Call Retry Rules
Leon's local VINE instructions add key operational detail. Florida VINE is available at 1-877-VINE-4-FL, or 1-877-846-3435, around the clock. If a notification call is missed or the line is busy, the system retries every 30 minutes for up to 48 hours. A voicemail or answering-machine message does not stop the calls.
Enter the four-digit PIN followed by # to acknowledge the event. Each telephone number registered for the same person needs its own PIN. That design lets separate recipients confirm their own calls, but it also means one person's acknowledgment does not necessarily stop another registered number's cycle.

Confirm Leon VINELink Release Events
A live released or out-of-custody result is useful secondary evidence. For LCDF, confirm the actual event with the releasing office at 850-606-3526 or request the closed booking episode from LCSO Records. Ask for the actual release date and time, release method or legal authority, and any public transfer destination. The Leon Clerk docket may show the release form, bond order, disposition, or sentence that authorized the change.
For a Florida state-prison record, use FDC's Inmate Release Information Search. It includes people already released and people scheduled for release, so compare the status and date carefully. Release-search data updates nightly. A future date is not completion. FDC's Bureau of Admission and Release at 850-488-9167 handles substantive state-release questions.

Leon County VINELink Limits
VINELink does not replace BOP's federal locator. A person at FCI Tallahassee or the Federal Detention Center Tallahassee belongs in federal records, even though the facility is in Leon County. A BOP result may show a release date and Released or Not in BOP Custody status. That still does not rule out another sovereign's custody or federal supervision.
VINE data can lag behind the event sent by the agency. An absence is not proof of release. A roster miss also does not establish what happened. For LCDF, the sheriff's closed release event and court record are the fallback. For FDC, use the appropriate state inmate release or supervised population record. If ICE custody may follow a transfer, the ICE locator has separate limits and a no-result cannot prove release.
The LCSO current search has a different purpose. It answers whether a person is listed in present LCDF custody and provides filters such as first name, last name, ethnicity, and gender. A person who has already left that jail may no longer appear. VINELink can supply a status event or alert, while the requested sheriff record supplies the lasting date, time, method, and destination. For state cases, FDC's release database covers felony offenders sentenced to state prison or state supervision, not people sentenced only to county jail or county probation.
FDC and VINELink Registration
FDC Victim Services offers a separate agency notification enrollment. Its web form can collect contact details plus inmate and case information for notices about movement events. Direct VINELink registration does not automatically create an FDC Victim Services file, and enrollment with FDC should not be assumed to create a VINELink registration.
The distinction matters for a person moving from LCDF into state custody. Register in the service that fits the needed notice and retain confirmation from each. FDC Victim Services can be reached at 1-877-884-2846 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern.
