Releases From Leon County Detention Facility
LCDF is the adult county jail and central local booking facility operated by the Leon County Sheriff's Office. It receives people arrested by LCSO, Tallahassee Police, campus police, and other agencies in the county. Its release record closes one booking episode, but the meaning of that closure depends on the method and destination.
Community release can follow a surety, cash, or property bond; release on recognizance; supervised pretrial release; a purge or fine payment; time served; or other written legal authority. The criminal case may remain open after bond or pretrial release. A person can also leave LCDF through transfer to FDC reception, another jurisdiction, treatment, Florida State Hospital, federal custody, or immigration custody. That movement ends Leon County jail custody but does not necessarily end confinement.
The strongest local record combines the actual date and time with release method or authority, booking number or SPN, and transfer destination if the field is public. Charge and case numbers connect it to the court docket. An old roster row or bond receipt cannot replace the completed event.
Confirm a Leon County Jail Release
The LCSO search states that it displays inmates currently in custody. A hit confirms current listed custody. A miss can reflect release, transfer, lag, spelling error, or a record held by another system. Current columns may include photo, identity and age, last arrest, Last Release Date, In Jail?, charges, arresting agency, and detail. An in-custody record can display 01/01/0001 as a sentinel Last Release Date; that is not a real release date.
- Search the LCSO current inmate tool with the correct spelling and record the search time.
- If absent, call the releasing office for a same-day operational question, then request the closed booking and release event.
- Search the Leon Clerk criminal docket for bond, first appearance, release form, judgment, sentence, or other authority.
- Check Florida VINE for an agency-fed custody event, while keeping release and transfer wording distinct.
- If the event shows transfer, continue with FDC, BOP, ICE, another jail, treatment, or the named receiving system.
The full named-person and release-record sequence appears on the Leon County released inmate search. It provides the right follow-up when the current LCDF row has disappeared.
Note: The retired Daily Booking Report was a booking-day cohort, not a complete list of everyone released that day.
LCDF Release Timing and Holds
The 2024 inmate handbook says sentenced people may be released at any time during the scheduled date. Other release processing starts after written legal authority reaches the jail. Normal out-processing is estimated at about 45 to 60 minutes, but court and clerk paperwork or another-agency wants and holds checks can extend it.
The moment a judge speaks or bond is tendered is therefore not the physical-release timestamp. LCSO's Releasing Section completes checks, paperwork, property return, and account distribution before recording the exit. Court Services also calculates release dates and coordinates movement to treatment, FDC, state hospital, and other agencies.
LCSO reported that the Releasing Section coordinates probation and parole GPS attachment when applicable and performs certain registration and victim-contact tasks. A person may be ready to leave the custody unit but still need these lawful release steps. The final record should be read with its destination and supervision status.

Request an LCDF Release Record
A narrow request should identify the person, approximate booking and release dates, and SPN or booking number if known. Ask for the booking and release event showing actual date and time, method or legal authority, and transfer destination when public. A booking photo should be named as a separate item. Request electronic copies and an estimate before special-service charges are incurred.
Florida Chapter 119 supports access to nonexempt agency records. Section 119.07 permits ordinary copy fees and a reasonable special-service charge if extensive clerical, supervisory, or technology work is required. The agency must redact protected material and provide the nonexempt remainder when possible. No universal fixed number of days applies to every request.
If LCSO denies or redacts a field, ask for the specific exemption. Active investigative material, protected victim data, medical information, juvenile information, sealed or expunged material, and other exempt personal information may be withheld. A request should not seek those protected categories.
The LCSO records request page provides the current access channels.

The page is the durable route after a released person's current-custody row is no longer available.
Leon Clerk Release Form Check
The Leon Clerk's official criminal case file can include the arrest papers and any release form received from LCSO. Public documents are added to the progress docket and imaged when allowed. Search the name in the appropriate criminal case type and read entries in date order. Bond, first appearance, release authority, plea, judgment, sentence, jail credit, probation, and termination may appear at different points.
A court entry explains legal authority. It is not always the moment LCDF completed out-processing. A case marked closed or a disposition date also does not prove physical release at that time. Conversely, bond release can occur long before disposition. Pair the court record with the LCSO event.
Some older entries have no online image. The Clerk permits a document request and states a one-dollar-per-page charge may apply when it must provide a scan or paper copy. Confidential, sealed, exempt, or destroyed older records may not be publicly available.
Property at Leon County Release
LCDF returns personal property during out-processing. The handbook states that five dollars is provided in cash and the rest of a commissary balance is placed on a debit card, or on a check if the card system is unavailable. Those steps are part of release completion, not proof that the person is free of all other custody or supervision.
A person may authorize property release before departure. The authorization takes about 24 hours to reach the Property Office, so the recipient should call before arriving and bring photo identification. The form becomes void after 30 days. Transfer rules differ because property can accompany the person or be handled under the receiving process.
These details help explain why a scheduled date has no promised gate time. They do not create an exact pickup point, family waiting area, or rideshare rule. No official support was found for those claims, so the facility contact should be used for current instructions.
LCDF Release Routes Compared
The destination determines the next search. Do not keep checking the county roster after the record identifies another custodian.
| LCDF exit | Meaning | Next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond, recognizance, pretrial | Community release while the case may remain open | LCSO event, court order, local pretrial office |
| Time served or expiration | County jail term ended, subject to other holds | LCSO event and court judgment |
| FDC reception transfer | State prison custody begins or continues | FDC Corrections Offender Network |
| Federal or immigration transfer | Another sovereign may hold the person | BOP, federal docket, USMS, or ICE ODLS |
| Treatment or state hospital | Placement changed; not necessarily community freedom | Court order and receiving authority |
| Another county or jurisdiction | Custody continues elsewhere | Named receiving jail or agency |
The LCSO event should name the method and may identify the transfer destination if public. A roster disappearance without that context remains unresolved.
About Leon County Detention Facility
LCDF is not an FDC prison, federal institution, or juvenile center. It is the county's central adult booking and detention facility. That boundary controls the search, record custodian, and release meaning. FDC's statewide release search expressly excludes people sentenced only to county jail or county probation.
The LCSO 2023 annual report provides those dated operational totals. They are not current roster counts and not counts of unique people. The same report shows that booking, releasing, and Court Services are linked functions, which is why both date and destination matter.
Note: Annual processing totals describe agency workload for that year and must never be presented as a live jail population.
